Joëlette : special all-terrain wheel-chair
The Joëlette is a special all-terrain wheel-chair, with only one wheel, including front and rear shafts, suspension and a brake. It is suitable for all types of disabilities, even very heavy ones (you can even fit a corset on the wheel-chair).It was invented by Joël Claudel, a Mountain Guide in the Vosges in order to be able to carry his myopathic nephew on mountain paths. It was called “Joëlette” (Little Joël) because of its inventor's first name, Joël Claudel.
This tool allows you to give or restore access to natural areas for people with reduced mobility. This wheel-chair has the same scope of action as an all terrain bike: climbs, descents, earth, rocks ... nothing can resist it.
Feeling the wind in your hair, touching the trunk of a tree, smelling the scent of a flower... all this is possible thanks to the use of Joëlette!
I found out about the practice of the Joëlette in 2005 through the Handi Cap Evasion association and ever since I haven’t spent one single season without walking on the mountain paths with this funny device!
I have been granted the Certificate of Handisport Qualification that validates knowledge and skills related to the management of Handicap. Beyond this degree, I have to my credit a lot of experience and knowledge of all disability issues.
All types of hikes can be envisaged using the Joëlette:
- Chamois discoveries (half a day) with lunch and breakfast at a Farm House Restaurant (optional)
- Discovering the Hautes Chaumes (a day trip)
- Treasure hunt and musical evening (half a day)
- 2 days hike with one night spent in a Farm House Restaurant or a Refuge
